One of our cows is showing signs of copper deficiency. We have sulphur in our water and much of the literature links sulphur to poor copper retention. I was wondering what others do for copper. Our cows typically shy away from loose mineral, but do enjoy salt licks and free salt. We can mix into grain of course, but we're almost ready to send the herd to pasture. We have found a product called copperhead max. Does anyone have an idea or experience with a product that works?

The absolute best product I have found is: www.scbt.com/datasheet-363566-ultracruz-cattle-copper-bolus.htmlI give these twice a year (when vaccinating or working cattle) and offer minerals free choice year round. Being in the south my place is severely copper defficent, this combination has worked wonders! My neighbors all around even order these boluses now. This is my one stop shop now for vaccines, wormers, and supplements cause they get it to me fast!

Santa Cruz Animal Health website must be down.
For the last year we have been ordering other cattle supplies from this company. VERY pleased with the prices and shipping.

What are the signs of copper deficiency you are seeing? We also have sulfur in our water and I think I am seeing deficiency in spite of supplementation. My dexter is black, but I am seeing some rusty coloring on the inside of her back legs and some on her sides, she also has a bit of a mohawk going on the top of her tail. I have been considering bolus, but no one here does it. The feeling is that they are dangerous. That you will make them toxic. She is a small girl too, maybe 400#. I am getting ready to breed and want her in the best shape possible. She's my first cow, and this mineral thing has been tricky for me. Actually, it's all been a little tricky, lol. I also am not quite sure HOW I will bolus. I don't have a squeeze or a stanchion and she is not the most cooperative of cows.
