I am seeking the names of any Dexters who have a marker type 77 in the locus TGLA227. ( Usually the last or next to last marker on the DNA report).
I am working with an owner who purchased a Dexter ( Cow A) The owner of the herd lost control/management of the herd and did not keep accurate records as to the sire and dam of the offspring and Cow A has this marker.
This marker is one that is rare in my herd. I have over a hundred and 50 DNA tests on a varied range of bloodlines in my herd, and only one cow with a DNA profile that includes this marker 77. When I compare the pedigree of the cow ( cow A) and the cow tested from my herd, the common denominator seems to be Woodmagic animals imported to Canada in the late 1970's and the Tak-Sca-Du-Hav herd.

None of my girls have a 77 in their genotypes. Good luck. Hope you track some down.

Nothing on the ones that are typed. Could their offspring have it?

Nothing from our herd. Mike has a lot of Tak-Sca-Du-Hav in his pedigree, along with Woodmagic. We have some other cows heavy with Woodmagic and Tak herds and it didn't show up in any of those as well.

Hi, Could anybody confirm that TAM is currently certified to test for A2 genotyping? If yes can you give me the contact email or telephone number? A2 corp seems to be strangulating the world market by cornering the only FREE lab I know of at NZ www.genomnz.co.nz If anyone can direct me...please email me naresh.modernalchemy@gmail.com We are in India and are looking at testing for homozygous A2 cows...Cheers....Naresh

Dear Genebo, Thanks for your update.....I have already been with UCD and I am enclosing their policy below.....whats the point in just knowing that your is homozygous but cannot sell the milk with a value addition/disclosure???
"As a licensed laboratory, VGL is required to send A2 Corporation Limited a copy of all A2 Gene Tests and to disclose the following:
VGL is an A2 Corporation Limited (A2C) accredited and registered A2 Gene Tester. A2 Gene Tests conform to the specification and are validated to the standards of A2C.
A2C will only access information relating to you and your animals from testing carried out by the VGL for the purpose of contacting you about potential milk supply and to maintain a register of A2 gene tested animals.
A2C owns various intellectual property rights (including patent rights, trade marks, and technical and commercial know how) relating to the commercial production and sale of a2™ branded milk or milk with reduced beta casein A1.
It is possible that commercial use of test results may fall within the scope of such intellectual property rights, so if you intend to form a herd of animals used to produce a2™ branded milk or milk with reduced beta casein A1 on a commercial scale, you should contact A2C for more information."
While I do appreciate A2 branding strategy for their product can organic certification and testing be polarised?? They are actually god and natures gift to mankind.
I got a feedback from Brasil and need to do some home work ....
Cheers
Naresh
