I was out taking pictures of calves for some of our customers today and happened to get a good photo of our herd sire Midas.

He looks like he is checking out something on the otherside. It feels great when you can grab a good pic. He looks lovely and strong. How old is he?

He is just a little over four years old, so in the prime of his life and condition. Extremely easy-going and calm, but always gets the job done breeding. Here is a heifer calf, born in April, that is one of his offspring.

I really like your bull Charles. From the photo he looks to have good heart and chest width and depth, great length, plenty of capacity, and a fantastic topline with great tailset. All in all a fantastic bull to breed with. Do you show him? He would do well. Love his name, does all he "touches" turn to gold? regards Louise

Thanks everyone. We have not shown him, although I also think he would do very well. And, he is very well trained - such that anyone can walk him with a halter. On a much lighter note, here he is a couple of minutes later, enjoying a good scratch!

Oh Charles, now I know why I like your bull so much. I looked up his pedigree, that explains why he is such a well built bull. So much Saltaire Platinum, and Cornehir Outlaw, and he's poll to boot. You won the lottery with him. I noticed that you have a nose ring in him, (we have nose rings in our bulls for my security, I just don't have the strength to control a bull if he doesn't want to do what I want him to) but have noticed that in most of the photos of bulls people don't use nose rings. Do you normally have nose rings in your bulls too ? regards Louise

We put the nose ring in early in order to show him. As it turned out however, we never have shown him. I have never had to use the nose ring to control him - just put a halter on and he follows me anywhere.

Hi Carol, just a little confused, I think I must have missed something. Why are you thanking me? regards Louise

Hi Charles, he must have such a placid easy going temperament. I know our guys aren't that easy, if there is a cow coming in heat I really struggle to control them if I am trying to move them about. I can't use just a halter in those cases, I really need that nose ring to keep control of them otherwise they could just haul me about, only weigh about 54kg so I can't use my weight to anchor them. I certainly wish they were easier like your guy. regards Louise
