I am not sure if I have an issue around the corner or not.
One of our little ‘men to be’ is a few weeks off 6mths of age.
He has all the signs of being a fit and healthy young man, but seems to be void of personality!
Yep, you read it correctly.
He is either the most laid back, relaxed bull I have ever seen – or……..well I don’t know actually.
OH reckons I am being paranoid and states he is just really placid.
But you walk up to him for a pat – and its ‘whatever’.
You brush him down – and its ‘whatever’
He walks up to you and then just stands there. So you pat and scratch him down – and again, its whatever.
We put the halter on him for the first time and there was no reaction. He just stood there. So the OH pulled on it a little and off he moved as if he had been on the halter all his life.
He even doesn’t “display” any emotion at treat times. He walks along and there just doesn’t seem to be any excitement in those eyes of his. The others show a spark, some rear leg kicking and eagerness……………but not this little one.
I reckon I could set off a bomb near him and he’d look over and have that ‘whatever’ expression on his face.
When a little younger he was nicknamed Clyde, and Branna who was 1.5 wks younger was nicknamed Bonnie.
The two of them were always into mischief and causing their mothers grief.
They would both chase the chooks. They would climb up every mound of dirt there was just to tear down the other side. They have been the only two to walk through the fence to play with next doors angus calves before returning back home for ‘slurpies’ with mums.
Oh I did see a little spark there when one of the young heifers were beginning to cycle for the first time. He knows what to do and was quite the gentleman about it, now that I think about it.
We walked her to the ‘Nun’ paddock and while he wanted to be with her – he certainly wasn’t pushy about it. But that’s about the most life I have seen him in of late.
None of the other calves, male or female were or are like this.
Has anyone else experienced this type of “yeah whatever” in a calf before?
