This is not about PHA. I am just wondering what the quality of the bull himself was and his progeny - such things as size, general conformation and perhaps milkiness. There is some semen available in NZ of a son Aldridge Baran Benedict (don't know PHA status at this stage) dam is Footprint Radar's Dawn (Canadian?)

Tony, I owned him for three years, at a time when Dexters were pretty thin on the ground and he was all I could get. At the time I was thrilled, as there really wasn't a choice. Now,... well not so thrilled. He was good looking, could have been a little longer, feet okay, personality mostly fine. Had a few challenges when he got older.
I used him on both Woodmagic descended cows and on the Bedfords. My personal experience was he didn't do much, either way. Maybe because the wm cows were all so closely related there wasn't much difference to make, and with the B's, their quality was streets ahead of his, so they turned out okay. I didn't see a ton of improvement in his daughters. A couple of his bull calves went on to do well. Offhand, i'd say he won't hurt anything, and may make some slight improvement, depending on the quality of cows used. I didn't use him on poor cows, so don't know if he'd improve on them or not.
Sorry not to be of more help. cheers, c.

That is superbly helpful, thank you Carol. There is quite a pile of the son's semen available for nearly give away price. He has a lot of descendent's and if I had to guess I would have said they are not spectacular but they are solid animals that have endured where many flashy animals have not. That is perhaps kind of what you have said. There is of course the influence of the dam of which I know nothing (Footprint Radar's Dawn). The other thing (as discussed on other post) if the semen tested A2/A2 then that would be helpful! Many thanks.
