 We had nice red bull calf born early this morning from Violet and sired by Midas. He is a big, healthy and active calf after only a few hours. His name will be B Buzz. Attachments:

Really good genetic lines on this calf, and he has a good chance of carrying dun also. I collected hair samples for testing this morning, gave him a dose of bovine ecolizer, and put his ear tag in. He will stay in the paddock with mom for a few days so I can handle him often before they get turned out into the pasture.

yes, we like to early imprint them too. Nice pink nose, are you thinking ee? I really like Midas, so if he is as good as his father he will make a great bull.

Well, Midas is E+/E+ B/b. The different shades of red coats and noses always interest me.

Ah, so can't be ee. What is Violet? She has a dark nose. We have had them born with pink noses and end up with speckled dark noses. I think it is hard to second guess their genotype just from their appearance, we have had one born the palest cream colour with a pink nose who changed colour when she lost her calf coat and ended up the richest chestnut red with a dark speckled nose. We haven't genotyped her for colour, but guessing E+e. The different colours in reds, their noses and hooves are amazing aren't they?
Whatever his genotyping, he's still a nice looking calf.

PS we had a little black bull calf born this morning and not half as spritely as your calf, he's a real little calf though, doing well, just tiny.

I haven't tested Violet for color either, but I would guess Buzz is E+e also. There is dun on both sides, so I am going to test him to see if he carries dun.
