In the past there has been a $10 fee for transferring genotypes to UCD-VGL from other labs.
With the new system set up for testing which permits owners to test through a registry contract and receive the contract pricing many owners have expressed an interest in using the UCD testing services but hesitate because of the cost to transfer the existing genotypes from other labs to use in their parentage comparisons.
Legacy has inquired as to price reductions for owners who would like to transfer their DNA genotypes from Cothran lab in Texas, Igenity/Geneseek, and SRC in Canada and UCD-VGL is considering a new feature to offer owners the ability to upload the DNA markers themselves online and/or fill in a spreadsheet (in the case of larger herds for which UCD will supply a template) and submit copies of the genotypes for a cost of $2.00.
UCD-VGL is interested if Dexter owners would consider this a workable option for their transfers?

Judy, I love the idea for those who have many genotypes with other labs. It wouldn't affect us much because we only had a few bulls and a couple of cows genotyped elsewhere, but I can see others who would love the idea. Just from a time standpoint it probably poses some advantages, allowing the genotypes to be transferred more quickly.

If I had any concerns it would be that UCD is able to see the actual genotype report itself. They would not have that ability if an individual is able to transfer the information themselves. The only other option would be is once an individual enters in the information a scanned copy of the report be attached.

Just got off the phone with VGL as to my concern regarding their possible new transfer reporting system. As Judy mentioned this is still a work in progress. Any transfer by an individual via this new reporting systems WILL REQUIRE THE ACTUAL REPORT be sent in also. All of the details are still a work in progress.
Judy, I'm sure you're wondering why I am getting involved with this at all. You'll be happy to know that I transferred all of my parentage verification records over to VGL about a month ago, still waiting for them to post them however.

I do not think there is a lab more careful or precise than UCD. Or more cognizant and careful of their reputation for excellence. They would never suggest an option they were not confident would support their system without issues. I must have worded the question so as to confuse the issue when I placed it on the chat room. Looking at the original post I see how the comment that the markers would have to be scanned or mailed may have been missed or misunderstood. Even a typo would likely be noticed quickly when the genotypes were checked and transferred as the diversity of Dexter markers is very limited as to numbers, and there are number patterns even within the markers. UCD *WOULD* require that copies of the DNA marker reports be submitted for comparison and confirmation. ( Contrary to what some ADCA personnel believe or has been suggested to them by non-scientists, it would be extremely difficult to falsify markers and get away with it). I have worked with UCD on more than 100 transfers of DNA markers from other labs. I know how careful and cautious they are to check not only for accuracy of the submitted markers but to verify they are ISAG and confirm they are ISAG adjusted. ( ( The major problem with transfers!). I apologize that my post was less than clear. Please feel free to share this response with anyone who might have a concern. I have none.
I am sure there is a backlog of transfers waiting to be processed. UCD does this with careful attention to the information/markers being transferred. It is a timely process and the slowest results of any request you will likely submit. A wait of several weeks would not be unusual for the transfers.

Yes there is a backlog. My concern however was that my check had cleared a month ago and nowhere on my VGL account did it show any receipt of money or genotype transfers. Since this is so new to them, I don't think they really had a chance to figure this all out. When I talked with Stephanie regarding this, she saw exactly what I was talking about. So they are now working on a way to show receipt of genotypes and money. At least this will let the breeder know where they stand in the process. It will still take some time to process them, but at least you know they received them.

I checked just in case I was missing something, nothing new, no monies have yet shown up. Talked with Stephanie on Friday so I knew she was still working on it. One bit of information for those of you that might be sending your own reports directly to VGL. A full birth date of the transferred animal will be needed, Texas A&M sometimes just notates the birth year.

So, following Genebos prompts leads me to this ,
Send genotype and parentage to ADCA VGL Case # : Animal Name :
By pressing the Save button below, you indicate agreement that a notice of genotype on file and parentage result involving the sample tested will be sent to the ADCA Registrar, and ADCA members will be able to search for and specify genotype results for purposes of identity confirmation or parentage verification. Diagnostic results (color testing, chondrodysplasia, PHA, polled and A2) are not provided to ADCA by this lab, and must be forwarded to the ADCA Registrar by the tester in order for the results to be included in the ADCA Registry information.
This is one of my animals and I have removed the name, just wanted to show people what you see. Now, my question is just exactly what will other members see of my genotype, who gives it to them, the ADCA or UCD? How does the member requesting the info prove they need it for genotyping only? anyone know maybe a Director reading the Forum.

This has not been well done. UC-Davis VGL was in no way ready to take this on and it's quickly becoming a paperwork morass. The bulls that have "Legacy" genotypes at UC-Davis don't have their genotypes available for sire qualifying any calves submitted for non-Legacy genotyping (through the ADCA or regular accounts). If you put in the Legacy case number for the Sire's genotype designation, the UC-Davis lab doesn't recognize it, unless you are submitting through Legacy testing service. UC-Davis has the genotype in their database and it still can't be used yet. What a train wreck.

Genebo,
I have a UC-Davis VGL account and have tested there for several years. My current herd sire (Ace of Clove Brook) was genotyped at UC-Davis by Shaun Lord (through Legacy's Testing Service) and he was also genotyped at Texas A&M. So I know that my bull's genotype is on file at both locations and in both databases. I'm just not the person that tested him and I don't "own" his report at either location. Shaun provided me with copies of both reports, so I do have the case numbers of the tests.
This is the first time that I've sent samples to UC-Davis for my Ace of Clove Brook sired calves to be genotyped there. The online test application entry form for UC-Davis would not accept the Legacy case number in the entry field, it didn't recognize it as a valid case number. So I went ahead and had the calves genotyped at UC-Davis (permanent genotype) and now I'll have to work backwards and go through the system manually in order to get the calves genotypes compared to their sire's genotype at UC-Davis. The bull's genotype is there, it just isn't in their system in a way that it can be designated and utilized for parentage testing through their online test application form.
I understand that I'll have to transfer the dam genotypes from Texas A&M to UC-Davis VGL (or get the dam retested at UC-Davis), before any of my calf genotypes can be compared to their dam genotypes at UC-Davis.

Mrs. Adams, The Legacy files show NO effort by you to email or request any assistance. The Legacy database has always been available for parentage comparisons. The Legacy commitment to the Dexter breed and it's owners has no borders. It is disappointing that you would choose criticism of Legacy versus an email for assistance because there has never been a Dexter owner to whom Legacy refuses to help in any way possible.
Any problems are solely those of Legacy and not UCD. When Legacy contacted UCD to inquire if a system could be implemented that would give owners control of their herds and samples and yet permit them to test with contract pricing, it was a simple matter for ADCA to implement a new system where none existed before. Legacy had been using a system for 10 years and the new ideas not only required a number of changes to that system but to the existing business model of Legacy as well. The transition has been complicated for Legacy. Some changes have worked with the Legacy system already in place. . some have not. Some owners wished to transition some do not but prefer to remain with Legacy testing. Legacy strives to work with each owner with the single goal that the owner's best interests are always served. An owner must first make Legacy aware of a need or a problem before it can be resolved. In the event you do not have the email address for the testing services it is: LegacyDatabase@aol.com or you can always email ShareTheLegacy@aol.com Be it friend or foe . . . . .makes no difference in Legacy's commitment or service.

Judy,
I did contact Shaun Lord and let her know about the problem that I was having with the Ace of Clove Brook genotype that she has on file at UC-Davis with Legacy Testing Service. She is your customer, I'm not. It's up to her to resolve this issue with your assistance. Since Ace of Clove Brook is an AI bull, I'm not the only breeder that is having (or going to have) this problem at UC-Davis VGL, unless it is corrected. Please contact Shaun and let her know what needs to be done to fix this.
Thanks,
Patti

After reading this thread, I logged into my VGL account and looked around. I had Earnie's genotype transferred from TA&M a year ago, but it does not appear in the list of my cattle. When I went through Legacy, a parentage comparison was available, so my calves were listed as "sire qualifies". But now, on my own, I cannot select Parentage option because Earnie doesn't come up in the database, not even by his LEG number. I have emailed UCD.

There are some impediments regarding the transfer of all cases to direct accounts at UCD. The transfer process has been expedited as quickly as possible in all cases. The system at UCD is a fantastic one for owners, and I will reiterate that any glitches are due to the Legacy contract transfer process and changes to the Legacy system and not UCD. ALL files are NOT transferred and may never be transferred however they are available for parentage verifications. In the case of Ace of Clove Brook that is being checked and followed up.
The transfers of DNA markers from other labs to UCD were processed differently depending on several factors. They were assigned different case numbers, and the number that the lab uses and the number in the Legacy registry are somewhat different and have to be entered correctly within in the UCD system and this is one of the delays in the transfer process. These will all be processed as soon as possible if the transfers were paid for by the owners. In the cases where the costs of the transfers were paid by Legacy ( and this includes genotypes) these cases are handled differently and Legacy requires reimbursement of the testing costs prior to transfer. Olga your case is being checked.

What has been Legacys turn around time for transfers of genotypes from TAM to UCD? Also have they been showing receipt of genotype reports and payment? Still waiting for anything to be done with mine.
