Okay folks.....this is NOT for the faint of heart, those lacking self-confidence, or ones with poor math skills.
BUT, we are all good at one thing or another, and have spouses or friends who fill in the blanks.
I am uninterested in the mindset that refuses to care about worming. If you are doing regular fecal floats and know for certain that your worm load is under control...GREAT.... If you DON'T have to worm...Congratulations.....If you don't know, don't care, and won't worm..... good luck.
Chemical wormers are low on my list of Favorite Things.... somewhere below ingrown toenails and Psoriasis.....BUT, I'm not throwing away years of advancement, and the fitness and health of my animals, as I learn the ropes, acquire stock from outside sources, and populate my pasture. I'll never be able to abandon wormers with pigs. I will try and eliminate them with cattle and goats. I used to spend several hundred dollars, a couple times each year, to keep everything wormed and free of external parasites. We have switched to a seller that provides us bulk Frontline flea and tick liquid for our dogs.....at about 1/6 of the $$$exhorbitant price of the branded product. We buy our Praziquantal tapewormer for pennies of what the commercial product costs. We use the injectable generic Ivermectin...orally for dogs, injected for rabbits, and topically for cats and chickens, for other worms, lice, ear mites, and heartworm control. We have some very fit and healthy animals (6 big dogs and 8 cats), who provide us with rodent control and predator elimination. And, we keep them fit and healthy for pennies.
If you have a Club or Organization, a Fraternity of like minded livestock/animal owners, this is an opportunity to save thousands of $$$$. My closest hillbilly, mongrel cow operation, neighbor has 200+ cows. My best friend is blind and he runs 100 momma cows.Several neighbors or friends could co-op a purchase. OR we could post this in some format here that would allow the collaborative purchase of portions of a Kilogram by forum members. ALL YOU HAVE TO BE CERTAIN OF IS THE ADJUSTED DOSAGE. It is so easy, there are dozens of sites on the web where Veterinarians themselves give dosages, and instructions for administration. A quality milligram scale can be bought for $50. on Ebay.
Fenbendazole is one of the most widely used, and safest oral wormers. It is available in the form of pelletized alfalfa, liquid drench, and paste. We use it on all our livestock and pets, from cattle to chickens.
The 100% Fenbendazole powder/ 1 Kilogram, comes directly from the manufacturer in China. If you think that you are not already using Fenbendazole from China, you are deluding yourself. Admittedly, I am eliminating the safety of a company chemist who tests to make sure it isn't Gypsum Powder or some other bogus material. Personally, I am going to give it a whirl and throw in my $150. ante and see what cards are dealt. I am 99.5% confident that it will work out.
Oh, and if you are wondering as to the stability of Fenbendazole Powder. There are research papers available on the web that indicate it is exceptionally stable with no degrade in potency with long term storage. If you know how those pellets are made, you know that it has to withstand high heat in the pellet forming process.
I'll let everyone know how this turns out in a couple of weeks. If you are interested, I can then provide the address of the seller.....or....you can Google up "Alibaba" for a full list of manufacturers in China, and get together with your friends and buy a KG from one of the suppliers who sell small quantities. Many of the listed manufacturers will only sell a 100KG drum of it. There are a half dozen who will sell 1 KG. Just search Alibaba for "fenbendazole".
AND....."Coming Soon to a Theater Near You"......Doing the same with 100% pure Moxidectin (Cydectin) powder".
I just have to do the research and gain confidence in the process. Moxidectin is best delivered orally. Here in the USA we only have pour on and injectable. The Europeans already have the oral product.
The savings over the exorbitant price ($95 for 1 liter of semi effective pour on) is many times more than the Fenbendazole savings.
