We're ready for winter now, the hay is in. Our barn is full and the rest is stored under tarps waiting... with snow on the mountain and flurries blowing it probably won't be too long now. We're trying something different here and it is working great! We usually feed orchard grass/alfalfa mix hay but this year we lucked into big 4x5 bales of 2nd cut brome. It's tender, short, and green. The cows love it and we have gone from probably 30% waste down to practically none. Big $ savings! The calves love it too and are doing great on it. It's good stuff.

Glad to hear it is working out well for you too. Our cows look great and with so little waste, we're getting almost 2x the time out of each bale.

Hi wvdexters, Hubby and I were talking about how good the hay looked that you were feeding your girls when we picked our heifer up. Going to have to investigate and see if we can find some to try.

Hey there Morning Star. We had such a nice time while you all were here. Visiting and talking Dexters. What fun!!!
This hay is good stuff. We've already talked to the farmer and plan to get this every year. Our order is in.
