Hi. Is there a database or system where sermen and embrios can be obtained or sold. In SA we do need some new bloodlines but is also difficult to obtain semen as alot that is out there is not obtained at the same protocol that we uses. Wouldnt it be nice if everyones is the same and the path to make the Dexter breed bigger (more animals - Not the cattle ) Also let a big AI company hold the different bull semen as well as embrios. Think this would be a big + for the Dexter. Cheers Danie

Danie, as far as I know there is only one person from the US who has semen and embryo's that can be shipped internationally. She also has some of the finest bloodline available. Take a look around her website. You can contact her and she can give you all the information. I know that she has semen in Australia and embryos in Germany. Best of luck. Here is her info. www.dexters4u.com/embryos/

Interesting point, Sheri, about maintaining control over who your bull is bred to. I had never thought of that! When I finally get my act together and get up to see you, remind me to ask you about your breeding plan (because you are younger and have a better memory!)
Also, Danie, when you contact Gabriella Nanci, the breeder Hollydzie sent you the link for, don't be discouraged if you don't hear from her right away. She travels a lot to Africa where she is very involved in several projects. She will text or email from her phone while traveling, but that depends on where she is, I assume, and whether she gets service.

If a breeder invests the time and money to have a bull collected for export, you can be sure you are getting quality semen or embryos. Nobody in their right mind would spend the money/time to collect a bull of poor quality for international export. I have seen a lot of bulls collected for sale in the US that should NEVER have even been collected as they were of such poor quality.
Susan I am surprised to hear that it took her awhile to get back with you. I was impressed by how quickly she responded to me.

Susan it sure looks like you did your homework with your new little bull. He is darling and out of wonderful bloodlines. My current bull is from Mrald. My new bull which was born in Oct. and coming home in the Spring is sired by Red Wing. Looks like we think alike. My little guy Pippin Holly

BUT it would be nice to have a catalogue full of bulls with all their information breedings, performances, bloodlines. Pick and choose
(a few years back I wanted to get Redberry Prince semen but because of protocols was unable.
Also wouldnt international buyers have a better chance to buy as they can buy a "pack" of bulls rather than one or two and the smaller guys can get less without costing them too much

Hi Danie, we have the same issues here in Australia regarding semen and embryos. There is a very strict protocol that must be followed for the semen and embryos to be allowed to be imported, and to be registered with DCAI. There is health testing to be done, and DNA testing to be done. I am surprised that you couldn't bring in Redberry Prince, his semen is here in Australia, so passed our clearances. It does cost money to bring semen in, so there is not a lot of new semen coming into Australia for general use, however some people are bringing in semen for private use. regards Louise

Hi In SA all bulls must have 3 washes (skede) dont know the english while international only requires 2. Redberry had only 2 washes if I can remember correctly. Now with "bek en klou seer" NO semen or embrios can be exported from here. Some few years back it could have been done but it seems our state veterinary services is going down hill and goverment also dont care about agriculture so they dont care if all is stopped. Alot of Dorper and Boergoat farmers in Aus is dissapointed now as alot of top genetics is not available to them also. However I know people that send to the South Americas and then from there elsewhere again. Makes it a bit more expensive.

Hollydzie, I didn't mean to imply that Gabriella was slow to respond. On the contrary, she's been very quick to respond to me! I do know that she travels alot, and that's why I threw that in there, but you're right--she's quite on top of things!
Looks like we do think alike on bloodlines! Thanks for the nice comments about our little guy. I have to thank Gabriella for putting me onto him. She emailed me about something else, and I just thought why not ask if she has a bull? She didn't, but told me about this guy. We're very excited about him! Your Pippin is a great-looking guy, too!
By the way, how far are you from N. GA?

Hi Yes I had a look at the Dexters of Dexter4you. There was a bull but they dont show him for semen. One that looks less than an angus - surely a VERY nice bull and one I would want to own.

If you can't find semen to import, check to see if you can import a bull. Most definitely not a possibility with BSE, no other countries want it and won't allow live imports no matter what. regards Louise
