And last, but not least, this is Faith. She is a tiny girl, seems to be polled, and very friendly just like her momma. Tail hairs have been pulled and will be sent in this week. She was born on 2/8/14. I am currently planning to keep Faith. I am looking to trade Lucy and Jordan, if anyone is interested. I am especially interested in a shortie... My bull is chondro negative, so no problems there.

Yes, Holly, they have their new tags. He would NEVER have done it if I hadn't had everyone saying they did it within 48 hours. Faith was really easy to catch, Jordan and Tbone not too hard, but Lucy must of thought I was gonna kill her or something. Glad that I didn't wait any longer. From now on, he'll probably do it (or I will) within 48 hours.

Very cute babies Fran!! Great job on the ear tags. They usually don't offer too much resistance in the first couple of days. By the way, we dehorn (using caustic paste) on day two or three as well…..no pressure, haha!

We haven't used the paste, but I believe it HAS to be done within the first few days. Even if you use the iron, the results are generally better if it's done as soon as you can identify the location of the horn bud. It's a much smaller area and after a few minutes they don't even seem to notice. We used to wait longer when we used the vet and he used lidocaine to dull the feeling, but I think they hated the shot as much as the dehorning. We use the Rhinehart X50 and I have a couple of different tips. We also use it on our fainting goat kids with the small tip. Very versatile and built very well. www.jefferspet.com/x-50a-electric-dehorner/camid/liv/cp/16157/Your husband is going to hate us!

We were going to go Ahead and do the dehorning but it was too wet. We would've had to get them down to the horse barn and the moms would've probably said no. Hopefully next weekend. We do prefer to do those ASAP.

Our ole doc Wink always recommended that I get a tube dehorner. It works like a leather punch, you put it over the horn button and twist to get deeper. Then you tilt and flip the button out. www.shopmedvet.com/product/tube-dehorner-75inchTurns out that valleyvet and jeffers no longer have these. They are about $10 a piece, come in 3 sizes: 3/4 inch, 7/8 inch, and 1 inch. Found them on another site, they were $36 there, each - outrageous. I'm guessing, many things that are steel have gone up in price or gone out of stock....

What a lovely bunch! They are going to have SO much fun playing with each other! Please get us some pics. I have yet to have two calves at the same time that could play with each other, and I'm really hoping it happens this year.
