I am thinking of crossing some ladies to a lowline bull. AI will be my choice so I dont have to get another bull, but whats everynoes opinion on that. Mind you these are not registered gals or else I wouldnt think of it. Also I am thinking of some mini herefords, I know Mike used to or still might dabble in some hereford blood. Dexter bull over them, or potentially maybe a lowline over them to get some little baldies. IF anyone has any personal pics of these I would be interested to see what we will get. Thanks again.

Thanks Gene, that my be a good idea. Dont get me wrong, I love Dexters more than any bovine I can imagine. I am just trying to think quicker grow out times, more of a marketing idea to get them to market faster, and still hopefully maintain great Dexter beef flavor. I am thinking of the hybrid vigor we all talk about. Your friend who runs a Dexter bull over Angus cows is getting results, and obviously I wouldnt run a full size Angus with my little cows, but a Lowline sounds like a good idea to me to try AI. If I find I dont like it or it doesnt work, then time for a long legged polled bull. Just some thoughts.

That was something I was thinking about. Thought the herefords would be a problem but figured the Angus would be doable. I haven't researched it enough to decide yet and I will keep trying to find more info. That first cow is a beaut and the other calf just didn't get a Hereford but on her but has some pretty color. My wife says I want one of everything, I can't let her know she is right.

Thanks Gene. I woikd be interested to see what size babes he is throwing in those straws and what he would.like for them. No rush but if you think about it. If I was still living in Suffolk it would be easier.

I have some % lowline cattle. Just like with any breed you have some with good temperaments and some with bad. I have bred 1/2 and 3/4 % lowline to my Dexter bull. The calves are fantastic, they out grow the purebred Dexters, have excellent hanging weights, lay down fat a little fast then the Dexters. If you have unregistered Dexters when you breed them to the lowline you will be able to register the resulting calf as a % lowline. www.lazyglowline.com/ have some excellent cattle with good temperaments. They specialize in Reds. We just had a 3/4 % bull calf born yesterday. You can see his picture at www.rdoubled.com/rdoubled-babies-on-parade.html

That's what I was hoping to here. I may have found some percengage lowlines, that were a dexter/lowline cross found. If so I will be going with a lowline bull and bringing them that way. May run them on my in-laws place and run my Dr gets here. Who knows. So many options. And by the way you have some beauts up in the pacnorwest

I have a 4 month old heifer calf, 50% lowline - 50% Dexter. I AI'd my Sulu to lowline bull, Mr. Dundee. I am very happy with the calf, she is going to be a bit larger than my Dexters and her temperament is very calm and easy going. I would use caution breeding Dexter heifers to lowline but after that I haven't seen any issues.
