Two days of warm (well, 50 degrees is warm for us anyway) sunshine and a round bale of straw and the Dexters are loving it! I don't think I've ever seen them loaf around this much. This boy we're keeping intact...he is a really good looking boy with the most striking eyes I've ever seen in a Dexter. We've also kept his non-carrier full brother from last year and are starting to use him to breed our chondro carrier girls. His mom Luc is 13 years old, and as you can see has a very nice udder for her age. Mike is the sire.

It sure is nice to see the cows enjoying the sunshine. I love the look of pure bliss on that little calf on the right! That mama Luc has perfect milking handles ..marion

Those cows are absolutely luxuriating in the sunshine! It's so nice to see them enjoying it after the weather you've had! And yes, Luc has a very nice udder, even on a younger cow. I can see your little guy's striking eyes in the photo. They give him a very compelling gaze.

Takes a while to thaw out from the polar vortex and his offspring! They're really soaking it up. Luc looks nice Hans, does she put on much hair? Hard to tell on the phone pic but she looks pretty slick.

Back to snow for tonight, at least for a short while, but they sure deserved the warm sunshine this past week after the cold winter! I hadn't noticed the calf on the right...not sure which one that is, it must be one of the newest ones since he/she's not tagged. Cute face, yes. I love your comment Holly, I prefer to think that rather than I have dead calves sprawled on their sides! Joel, Luc is not as fuzzy as some of them, but she slicks off quite a bit in the summer (that would be oh... August..lol) I can see Luc being one of those cows that lives into her 20's, she hardly looks or acts her age at all. She's a smart little bugger too. To think that we nearly lost her a few years ago due to choke on an apple. We had to trocar her to keep her from dying of bloat, with her locked into a squeeze chute for 12 hours while Sheril and I watched her all night with the butcher on call for an emergency processing. What memories!
