I didn't get a chance to watch the video, but the pictures are wonderful. I hope the little thing found its real mother.
You know you are hooked on Dexters when you look at those pictures and think, "what a pretty udder"

Great video and the photos are really nice. You should enter them in the photo contest. You have my vote.
Did mom come back or do you have another new addition? One of my best friends (older lady now gone)had a pet deer. Now you have to remember where we live, WV ridges. I can't remember exactly how many yrs they kept her but it was in the teens. During hunting season she stayed in a little pasture next to the house and the rest of the time she was let out during the day in the big pasture with the cows. At night she slept in the house in their room. She was even housebroken. She and the kids had found her when she was only a few days old when her mom had been hit.

How precious! That is SO adorable, and so peaceful and calming to watch, as ssrdex said. Skye is going to be one sweet mama cow!
And ditto the advice to enter the photos in the Dexter photo contest next year!

To all who have posted....Thank you all for the nice compliments....Yes I do think the momma came back for her.....I'll tell you why...I posted all this on Facebook also....Carl& I were watching the fawn trying to get as close to baby Skye as she could....I called my daughter across the road to see if she wanted to feed a baby deer..I really don't think this fawn was more than 24 hrs. old....Anyway, Leah said no just leave her there and her momma will come back for her...I said but Leah, what if she doesn't come back....Leah kept reassuring me the mom would come back....Well , hard as it was( broke my heart), I took Sassy & baby Skye out of the pen, the fawn trying to follow Skye,Carl had to hold the fawn so she couldn't go out the gate, and I put them in the next pen...I figured at least Skye and the fawn could see each other....I went back in with the fawn, Skye is walking the fenceline by now looking for the fawn, I just looked at that fawn and told Carl, lets leave her here for awhile and check back in awhile....About then, the fawn let out a cry, and then I heard another louder cry answering back to the fawn...So Carl and I went in the house...We went out the next morning and looked for the fawn and couldn't find her anywhere...Checked again that evening, no fawn...Next morning and evening, no fawn....So I am sure the momma was close by and that is the second cry I heard....I had all I could do not to pick that fawn up and take her in the house and feed her....I know she is better off with her momma but the heart strings sure were pulling!....Skye has recovered from the incident and I feel very certain she is going to make a wonderful loving momma herself...She is already a sweetie pie....Glad you all enjoyed...I may go ahead and put that picture in the photo contest....Thank ya'll for suggesting it....And one more thing...I want to thank OLGA very much for posting this on here for me....I just have not figured out how to do this yet...Thank you so much OLGA...Your a love for doing this for me.....Sincerely...Donna ( So now you know "The rest of the story")LOL

Thank you for the update. I'm sure you'll see the fawn again even if it's at a distance, it will probably be back to hang out with its step-family when it's older.

I just showed it to my daughter and she oohed and aahed over it! Those fawns do tug at the heart strings, don't they? They have to be one of the most beautiful baby animals around! But you did the right thing, hard as it was. If you were in TN, it would be illegal to take the baby in. TWRA are really hard on people that try to rescue baby animals, even to release them, and if they get their hands on them they euthanize them without even trying to release them. There have been some articles in the paper lately. I used to work at the Chattanooga Nature Center and helped feed three orphaned baby deer. There was nowhere in TN for them to go although someone right over the state line in GA was willing to release them, but TWRA euthanized them. It made me sick!

One more thing....Thank you all for the comment on the nice udder...Yes Sassy has a beautiful udder....This is her first calving so I hope she keeps the nice udder...Her dams udder is not that great....That's the one I thought was self-sucking.....But she will nurse on other cows if they let her....Thank GOD Sassy didn't pick up that habit!....And Sassy is such a sweetheart...I was milking her, just for a few seconds , with no halter on or stantion...She just stood there and let me do it....So after the AGM, I will take her in and have her tested for everything ,so I can milk her for what little bit of milk we need....She seems to have a lot of milk for a first-timer, so I'm sure baby Skye won't mind sharing with us.....I really feel blessed. And Susan, that is such a shame those people just waste those deer....They could have let some one raise them for food!.....Poor little deer....Love ya'll....GOD bless and take care...Donna
