Yes it will be interesting to see how the ADCA feel about it since he was one of the ones at Meadville who tried to take over the ADCA.

Please reference John Hays book, "Dexter Cattle", p. 24:
"In 1977, with impetus from then president Mark L. Davis II, the Association was superseded by the currently existing American Dexter Cattle Association, a newly formed, non-profit Delaware corporation, and ten geographical regions were established, each to be represented by a member of the Board of Directors, elected for a term of 3 years by the members in good standing of the Region....."
So you see, Mark Davis (Colorado Herd) can be given the credit for transforming the ADCA into a non-profit corporation and helping to establish the elected Board of Directors. Whatever happened in 2004 in Meadville, when the PDCA split from the ADCA, doesn't erase all the years of hard work, devotion, and attention that Mark and Marge Davis contributed to the ongoing success of the ADCA. Their contributions to the ADCA were substantial and spanned decades.
That said, the last decade of the Colorado herd was an example that every Dexter breeder should take notes, learn from, and not repeat. As we get older and lose our abilities to maintain good records on our herds, it becomes imperative to take responsible actions, in a timely manner, for the future and well being of our Dexter herds. I have only been a Dexter breeder for 10 years, and in that time I've seen several major longstanding Dexter herds crash and burn at the end of the tenure of their owners. If people aren't taking note of this, it will continue to happen. We are each ultimately responsible for our own herds, and it is a travesty, in my opinion, that these longstanding Dexter herds have been compromised to the point where the animals have suffered, and their future has been jeopardized, due to the poor planning and inaction or negative actions by their owners. That is the ultimate failure, as I see it, of any devoted owner/breeder of registered Dexter cattle.

Most people don't know that Mark visited David Couper in Ireland with the intention of bringing back a Cornahir bull for use in the U.S. He never did pull it off, but I think David said Mark had visited several times.
Mark was going to make a comeback in 1997, and ran for President. Instead Jim Johnson allowed his name to stand at the last minute, and won over Mark. You don't want to know the behind the scenes stuff, but it was politics as its best.
Colorado Sheila was selected for export to AU.
Even though the herd records have been mismanaged and the Davis' kept a low profile for years, I believe they deserve recognition for their earlier contributions.
I'm going to start a new thread about Gene's link. c.

Patti, I'm aware of the history, many of the cattle in the NE have Colorado breeding. Like I said I am interested to see how the Board feel about it. There are not that many from the Split left on the Board at the moment so it may not even be an issue to them. I tend to agree with CD's thoughts on it.

Putting aside the politics and personalities
50 years in any breed but thankfully we have them in the Dexter breed, is a remarkable and heart-warming achievement and one which should be recognised with huge congratulations.
