Some of you remember the story about Lady II, the traditional lines red Dexter we just missed out on when we picked up some others in N. Michigan. Sheril spotted her for sale a few months later on Craigslist, and we dashed up to buy her. Her heifer calf was weaned at 2 months, etc...that we were willing to buy, but not at the price he was asking for her. Lady was of course a different story given her pedigree. The guy that we purchased her from was a character, and he also just started raising $10,000 Alpacas. I'm going to bet he has made more money on selling Lady to us and the calf to somebody else than all his Alpacas combined. We tried to get a breeding with her and Mike because it was going to be his last calf crop, but she was just too fast and antsy for him to follow around, so I took her and stuck her in with Dylan, who we were expecting to take over from Mike. Dylan is out of Mike and a very small cow with a nice udder on her. Well, obviously Dylan carries red (unlike Mike) because here is 24 lbs. of red heifer out of the two of them! Sheril and I believe she's a chondro carrier.

What an absolute doll! I'm sorry you couldn't get another Mike heifer, but I know you're thrilled with her!

Well Susan, I have to say that Dylan did a great job with his first calf! Dylan is dun, out of Mike and Tia Faye, a black cow (who was sired by a red bull). Sheril has been bugging me to test Dylan for red, but procrastination payed off in this case and I just saved myself twenty bucks!
