I have been on the phone or emailing for 2 1/2 hours this morning with several Dexter owners with regards to testing, testing results, and questions about testing. Dexter owners who affiliate and test through ADCA seemingly have no one in ADCA designated to help them with their questions and UCD personnel are buried in questions from ADCA owners. The testing process as it relates to results. . . especially DNA is very confusing for the average person.
One of the problems is the number of non-confirmed parentage results where genotypes have been transferred to UCD from the Cothran lab and then calves tested at UCD are not confirming. . . yet when sent back to the Cothran lab they confirm. UCD is then blamed for an "error". It is NOT an error. UCD-VGL tests and reports to the required ISAG standards and they do NOT round off reported types/numbers. The Cothran lab has, in the past, admitted to " rounding off" types/numbers and this means that on many cases the numbers in the type differ between labs and can create a parentage exclusion and any exclusion ( non-matching type/number) then creates a non-confirming case. Rarely do the owners understand this.
When these issues arose and Legacy was processing the testing through UCD . . . Legacy understood the problem and would advise the owner how to resolve it. ADCA is not helping these owners understand WHY this situation exists! ADCA should immediately send a communication to their members advising them if they have tested with the Cothran lab in the past and have switched to UCD and have received a non-confirmed parentage report that it should be reviewed.
Folks, the best thing you can do if you are new to the testing process is use Legacy! ! Legacy will be happy to then have your results transferred into your private accounts after all your needs are met and completed. To affiliate Legacy in your profile you must type in " LEGACY".

I DO care that you understand the process and that neither you nor your Dexters are the victims of a lack of understanding or information.
