I milk share both dexters and sheep. The biggest difference I've noticed is that it doesn't matter what you do with the lambs, they aren't happy being separated but once in a routine it's not hard to do. With the dexter calves, they really don't care. Close is good enough, and having a buddy doesn't hurt. The common thread in both situations is consistency. When separated the same way, to the same place, every day - no one cares. They know the routine and thrive on predictability. However, a change in routine can really piss momma off. I had Elle's heifer Haughty, along with 2 steer calf accomplices, get out and into the garden area last week. The calves were having great fun, as was evident on the exterior barn cams, but Elle was having a coronary even though they were right next to her pasture. That was NOT where they belonged. LOL
