I was going to refer a new enthusiast to the info on the ADCA website, so she could make an infomred opinion....and doesn't seem to matter where I look, I can't find the articles on polling, color and chondro. Not under Genetics (that just takes you to the UCD info), not under Dictionary (see below), nothing on PHA (see below), nothing on articles anymore....WHAT THE HECK'S GOING ON? The only reference I could find to chondro was in the dictionary section, "Chondrodysplasia - a form of dwarfism caused by a dominant gene. A Dexter with one chondrodysplasia gene is called a carrier. Carriers are typically shorter than non carriers. A fetus that inherits two chondrodysplasia genes will not live. These highly affected calves are called bulldog calves because of their “bulldog” appearance.", nothing on color, polled is about the absence of horns. "PHA (Pulmonary Hypoplasia with Anasarca) - a lethal recessive disorder. Affected calves have small poorly formed lungs and excessive fluid and are born dead Anyone else want to wade in here with the link I missed, or am I right and it's all gone? Anyone want to comment on the loss of info? (Gawd, I sound like another poster who uses *** and !!! and CAPITAL letters, but I'm pretty smoked.)

Gosh, it does seem to be gone. I would expect it to be on the new Education page, but it's all just basic facts there. If you know the titles of the articles you're looking for (or at least a close approximation) you can use the Search bar (scroll down the main home page to find it). Most of the stuff that used to be on the website is archived & you can find it that way. Kim

I don't know what prompted the change. And I only know to use the search because I was looking for something that I knew used to be there & couldn't find it, so I emailed Ray Delaney & asked him about it. I can understand wanting the website cleaned up a bit, but there's an awful lot of good info that "disappeared" that people won't even know to look for, as you said. Kim

the more things change, the more they remain the same....
35 years ago, I couldn't find anything on dwarfism. The only thing public was a generic statement that 'sometimes they have deformed calves but it doesn't affect milk production'. Looks like the same mentality is at it again. I went to the AGM in Penn in the late 80's and took with me a video from England that showed a bulldog calf, and two aborted foetuses at six months, one dwarf, one not as the subject was basically taboo and ignorance ruled the day. People got up and left, and I had one man spit at my feet (missed, thanks!) for discrediting the breed. I always say I'd like to see what replaces us, as we aren't worthy of managing the planet. cheers, c.

I think the Search bar is too far down on the home page for most people to find--I think most won't look that far! For anyone who wants to search, be sure to check the box "Search only the American Dexter Cattle Association site," type in what you want to search for, then click on the box "Search the ADCA." It comes up as Google results, but only within the ADCA site. cddexter , is this the Chondrodysplasia article you wanted? Polled and Horned and Scurs.
Color Genetics, I believe this is the article by John Potter. This system might actually make searches easier and keep us from having to remember where those articles were stored--IF the Search bar was at the top of the Home page in a prominent spot.

At one time the search box was higher up, I don't know what made the move it lower.

I don't think things are going back to that kind of mentality, Carol. At least I hope not! The Handbook isn't very convenient to find either, and once you do find it, it's 71 pages to wade through! Kim

It would be nice if they had a tab for articles on the ADCA website. I have been looking for John Potter's articles and can't find the link. I agree that the search bar should be at the top of the page, I didn't see that either.
