I'm trying to figure out if my 4 year old pedigree Dexter is in heat or not. She's displaying no signs of it other than this clear odourless discharge. I'm very new to this, and have only owned (2nr) Dexters for approximately 3 months. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It may be something normal that I've never noticed before.

I must add. She was running with a bull back for 6 weeks in August / September last year, so there is a chance she's pregnant (unless of course she's in heat).

I don’t think it’s a sign of being in heat. Not that I am aware of. I do know a cow can show heat signs and be bred some cows do, such as mounting other cows. If she is bred a clear odorless discharge isn’t unusual, I have seen this on one of our bred cows about a week ago and she is due in March. Usually I start seeing it about a month before calving but maybe your cow was interacting with another cow pushing, head butting, and that caused her to have a little discharge. If she was bred in August/September that would put calving somewhere in May/June.

Thank you Pine Valley, that's really helpful. She's only with her (massive) 10 month old calf who is still boisterously suckling, perhaps he's the cause of this.
I guess without employing the services of a vet, I won't be entirely sure she's pregnant until she either starts showing, or when her udders fill. Do you have any idea on when these symptoms start?
