Hello! I'm thrilled to have stumbled across this board! My lovely husband and I married last year and are in the beginning stages of building our own little homestead.
I have been looking around the internet for details on Irish Dexters and stumbled across this wonderful board. I've been a member of the Keeping a Family Cow board since 2011 and have been enamored with building a sustainable farm here in Kentucky. DH and I recently acquired an Irish Dexter cow with her steer calf and are quite impressed! After previously feeding (and fighting...) with a now butchered Holstein-Angus cow, the demeanor of our new Dexters is so much less stressful.
Aside from cattle for dairy and meat, I'm interested in eventually acquiring oxen for draft power on our farm. I'd especially love to hear from anyone with experience in this area!
I look forward to becoming acquainted with everyone!! Stay warm on this cold winter day!

Congratulations on starting your herd! We love our Dexters.
No experience with oxen, but hopefully someone that does will reply. There is, of course, a high volume of valuable information in the board's archives.
Stay warm! =)
