Hello! We are just starting our Dexter adventure. Currently we have just 2, a heifer and a steer. Max we will have 4. We are pulling hay off round bales and giving it to them on the ground daily but the waste is making me crazy. Obviously putting a full round bale isn’t the way to go with just 2, so what are your best suggestions for a small hay feeder? Something that holds it AND catches what they pull out. Is it better if it’s something they put their heads through? I prefer something lower to prevent dust and hay seed getting in their eyes. It will be in a covered area. Thanks for any diy or store bought ideas!!

Hello! I am also just starting with Dexters in a few months, and was wondering the same thing. What kind of feeder would work well for calves as well as adult Dexters? My other question is whether it would make more sense to have this feeder located outside during the winter, or in the loafing shed that I built for them?
