I am trying to find out how much my heifers weigh. The one is 3 1/2 months old and is long legged. The other is 4 months and is a short legged. Thanks Anita
PS- I have been typing in as a guest because I am computer illiterate! I couldn't figure out why when I posted I had to do a security check every time! My daughter just explained. How was I supposed to know!

Are you asking for dosing amounts for medication or feed? Most meds have a minimum dosage anyway that you'll want to use. Otherwise I would estimate 120-160 pounds. What do you think guys? A Dexter calf averages 45 pounds at birth , gain a pound a day max?, What do you think guys?

Well depending how accurate they are and what increments they go in 10lb, or 25lb I'd drive my pick up across the scales at the elevator get the weight empty then tie the calf in and drive across the scale again and do the math. This might not be practical for everyone. I say 140 to 180 if I had to guess. That is if they were 100% healthy. And not dehydrated. @ 4 months HCD

Hi Anita; If you can, get a beef tape at your local feed store to measure the heart girth of your heifers. I have found them to be pretty accurate, as long as you are accurate about their body condition. Even if you can't tell their body condition, they are usually within about 15lbs. If you can't find a beef tape, use a sewing tape measure or any other that is pliable and measure their heart girth. This site www.practicalcows.com/estimateweight.html tells how to go about it and also gives approximate weights for the measurements. Liz
