I've got an 8 yr old cow that I'm milking. She started limping a few days ago and it's getting worse. I checked her feet but found nothing. It's the back left leg (the one she kicks with).
I brought her in last night, away from the bull. Any advice?

Do you think maybe the bull or another animal was riding her ?? Sometimes that will cause them to get hurt. Hope she gets better..........P.J.

I just wanted you all to know that she's getting better. She's just limping a little bit now. I've been letting her out half the day and putting her back up for the night.
New question... I have a 3 year old cow that got scraped by a horn and at the top of the scrape it actually went through the skin. The scrape is healed now but there is a hole and some puss coming out. What should I do?

If it's just a little bit of infection and you are sure it's localized and no swelling, (and the cow is bright, eating, no temperature etc), buy a little bottle of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide. Using a syringe without the needle, inject some into the little hole. It will foam and clean and bubble out the infection. You could press around the area to push more pus out too. Repeat for a second day or three days and it should resolve. Watch out for flies around the wound and keep them away. Maybe someone else could chime in about fly products..marion

Yup I would definitely be applying 'Bluecoat' or another topical barrier spray a few times a day to keep the flies away. Otherwise they will start laying eggs and the next thing will be fly strike, a nice euphemism for maggot strike!
