On Gene's I'd say the middle pic is far away but, I'm going to say negative, negative, positive. On Han's I'd say positive, positive, negative.

Hans, Just curious……who is the cow in the last picture? She is very pretty. Eileen Eileen, Willow Hill Whoopie. She carries dun and red, A2/A2, and she is a beautiful cow yes. But she's a bit of a snot.

Oh Hans, how could you.....I looked, so I know at least one of them. The first two are carriers.

CIA looks neg to me, dun girl pos based on canon bones and nose, and also looks wide between the front legs, though pic is a bit far-off, and Beauty looks pos as well based on canons, no-neck and overall thickness. Turned head though. Hans' 2 boys both just look dwarfy! I'd say neg on the snot ...she just doesn't seem like her muscling is compacted to me.

Barb, I figured they were all pretty obvious, at least they are to us but we see them every day in the flesh. Whoopie was the last progeny of the same dam as Mike, though a different sire. We also have Louise out of Flo's Gracie, and she's a very pretty cow also, extremely long bodies on all of them even though all three are from different sires. Carol, it isn't that cow from the post a while back, she has lost a lot of weight, but we're having trouble keeping her bred, she seems to be terminating the pregnancy early, a couple of times now. We'll give her a bit longer since she's such a nice looking old "Lady" (that's her name and it fits her well). Gene, I like your test idea. Alas it probably won't be us to test him but one of our customers instead

What are your thoughts on this one, she is a 7-year old cow and this is her 6th lactation: (Her heifer calf is 2.5 months old in this photo): Same cow, front view: Same cow, side view: Patti

I would say non-carrier Patti, but she is in nice condition with a deep body. If she is a carrier, it doesn't seem to affect horn length or growth! Beautiful horns on her, the largest I think I've seen on a Dexter.

she's got horns like Oleander had. Jayne Paynter in England (who dehorned everything) tried to tell me it was from illicit Longhorn crossing. English have no idea how far apart Texas and NY are. And, the local vet told me Kelloggs were the only cows for 40 miles. More fodder for those who tout traditional lines, looking for anything to discredit. cheers, c.

She reminds me of Maxine, definitely non-chondro. Nice deep body and a really good hip.

No matter what, she does seem to have a large set of horns for only being 7 years old. Sorry for going off topic.

Well, if you believe, like I do, that the Dexter breed descended from the Irish Kerry (or was heavily influenced by the Irish Kerry, the original "poor man's cow"), then Lucy is as right as rain in the horn department as far as showing her Kerry heritage. Take a look at the size of horns of these mature (Chondro-free) Kerry cows from the Kelmscott herd: And for comparison, here is a historical photo of a Kerry cow from 1900: Patti

Intersting Patti, I used to hear Kerry was different from Dexter (see, Dexters aren't just dwarf kerries, so there!) and the way to tell them apart was horn shape. kerry went forward, up and back, Dexter went out, forward and in. cheers, c.

Which of the following three cows do you think is a Chondro-carrier and what do you see that makes you think she is one: Cow #1: Cow #2: Cow #3: Patti

#3 Definitely chondro. Maybe maybe #1 only because of her huge brisket, but my first thought was that #'s 1&2 were non..marion
