Agreed. I think we should each contact our regional directors. But for sake of transparency I think it would be great if these requests were public. Put them on our regional FB pages for all to see and to make the directors accountable.

Lakeport, you mentioning Legacy won't ruffle my feathers. When I decided to genotype and test our herd I went through Legacy because it was so much cheaper and Judy was there to walk me through any questions that I had. I still genotype with Legacy and transfer results to the ADCA. Right now I'm on the fence about renewing my membership with ADCA. I'm only one person with 10-12 animals and don't really matter but I bet if enough breeders didn't renew it might get their attention.

Hallelujah. This might be what finally gets us Parentage verification for females. Judging from the reaction here and on the Dexter Facebook pages, people are hot about this. Hot enough to bombard the ADCA leadership with email and calls? I hope so. Hot enough to run for Regional Director? I hope so. Hot enough to leave the ADCA? I hope not. Other people have done a great job of listing the flaws in this new policy and the flawed way it came into being. My hope is simply to convince you to stay with the ADCA and and help force change from within. I'm writing my Region 2 director with copies to all directors and officers right now. While I'm still hot.

I just emailed a letter to the ADCA President, Jim Woehl, and to my Region 6 Director, Norm Hoover.
It is very important that people contact their regional Directors on or before Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014. The Board has phone conferences every month and this item needs to be on their agenda for the upcoming December phone oonference.

I have just emailed my regional director and Jim Woelh as well. I understand what you are saying Dave and Susan, but if things don't change with our leadership I am going to seriously consider other options. Our association is so far behind industry standards that it's embarrassing. For many years I have poured my heart and soul (not to mention a lot of $$) into this breed, trying to breed the best animals I can while promoting these special cows. The ADCA has not progressed forward, and with this new tier system, they will be taking steps back. One can only tolerate this for so long

emgiger, please tell that to the leadership! They need to hear this and realize that the consequence of their actions is likely to be the exact opposite of what I think they meant to do.

I've been feeling the same way Eileen, probably for the many of the same but also some different reasons. It's not just this one change, but the accumulation of a number of things that have been bothering me for some time. The $15 steer registration is one example. I'd about reached my limit with the Region 3 Director's message in the last bulletin. I'd sent a letter and an e mail about it with no response. I was hoping to see some mention of it in the most recent bulletin with an apology or retraction to those of us who breed chondro, test and report our carriers, and do our best to promote the breed to new owners. No correction or retraction at all. I think I have around 50 or more chondro carriers now. The "2" designation ( and like it or not it resembles a rating) is another insult. I spend a fair bit of money testing and reporting the results, and I'm only slightly better than somebody who doesn't test at all?
I have around 62 Dexters registered right now, and another 40-50 with genotype and other testing completed through Legacy, and ready to register with the ADCA. I think I'm basically going to hold off on any further ADCA registration for now on the ones I'm retaining. I'll ask new owners if they're satisfied with genotyping and the Legacy database/registry only or if they want to join the ADCA with the reasons why I feel this way.

Just sent an email to the president, vice president, secretary & Region 8 director. I figured "the more, the merrier." Also, if the Secretary is responsible for taking minutes, she might as well have the text of letters in front of her. Steve Albritton told me the meetings are on the second Wednesdays of the month, which would be Dec. 10. We might even have time to get these sent by certified mail with a return receipt. I'm glad to go public with this. There's no reason for me not to. I tried to keep it short and concise, stated clearly without getting rude. I hope.

I also had to laugh that in the same bulletin the President's message was basically "don't sell your Dexters too cheap!". Since they're making it a full time job for those of us with large herds, I better not sell them too cheap!

Susan I like the way you worded you letter to the BOD of ADCA. I agree with you and wonder if we could copy what you wrote. You put into words what I am thinking. Maybe we could flood their in boxes with this letter. and sign our names along side of yours. I'm just not computer literate enough to do this myself. LizMo

Liz I had the same thought as you. Susan writes very well. Maybe we could make it like a petition? If not Susan would you allow us to copy and sign our names as well...

I've sent an email to the president and also our region 4 director as well. Why this would be considered and implemented is beyond me, and to be announced on page 8 of the bulletin? How did this look like a good thing for the breed, not to mention it's membership? Puzzling...

I want to say "don't go flying off and quit the ADCA" You can not change anything by leaving, it must be done from the inside. Legacy is not a registry, it's just a data base. We have a good registry, yet, not too many people get involved in it. In our region, only one person said he'd be the regional director, no one wants to get involved until it cost them money. Lets keep our registry and work to make it the best it can be. the ADCA gives us advertising, sanctioned shows, youth programs, lots of advise and someone to call when we have questions, it offers a lot!! On the other note, I got an e-mail, as I'm sure many of you have, and he said that the BOD will probably have to re-think the plan. Lets give them ideas, and input and actual constructive criticism. these people work hard and are not infalable. P.J. Breedlove
