Hi Y'all
Im new here and to posting on message boards so if I make a mistake or step on someone toes Im sorry in advance. Im looking for a legacy qualified bull of breeding age. I have talked with a few people but nothing for certain yet. Im in Oklahoma and it would be nice to find one around close. Im also in kind of a time crunch. (long story) would like to breed late nov-dec for fall calves.
Thanks Lee

Also try looking on the ADCA and PDCA websites. They each have For Sale/Classified links.
Good luck!

I'm also woking with Jamshundred for a bull, looks like its going to work out should be here tuesday if all goes well, the girls can hardly wait. I can honestly say Judy is one of the best people I have worked with since I have started in dexters and she really cares about the breed . I definitly owe her one.

If we are talking about Dexters then what is the difference between a legacy animal or any other dexter animal? Or is legacy someones farm name? What is it that I'm missing?

Okie-Dokie, is there some way that I can tell if my Dexters are the old style or the newer model? Likewise on the pedigree how can I tell if mine are old style or new? Now are we talking about the diference between the milking style and the beef style, I know I have seen pictures of Dexters from diferent herds and they look compleatly different. Like regular milk cows and regular beef cows. Or can we have legacy milk style and legacy beef style. This is starting to be very confusing. And thanks for helping me better understand my animals.

Gene can you show me the conformation of 'old time' so I can get an idea of the differance?

This is baiting, so here is a paraphrase:
Genebo, are you saying that genotype is more important than phenotype?

Here's their website: www.dextercattleamericanlegacy.info/I don't know much about it, other than they are trying to preserve the earlier bloodines that were imported to the US. Descendants of the bulls listed on the site are not considered Legacy qualified animals. As far as I know, pedigree is the only qualification and an individual animal's qualities aren't considered. Currently this is a very controversial subject and mention of it is not unlike hitting a hornets' nest with a stick.

And I notice that Saturn of Knotting, grandsire of "original Population" bull Elmwood Mackoy, has still not been removed from the list on that site. .marion

Your punctuation of "original Population" small o capital P is confusing can you please clarify and give some details. Are you saying he is part of the original population that came to the US or what? Dont mean to hi-jack the thread maybe I should post somewhere else. Open to any sugestions. HCD

I have a 5 1/2 year bull that is a Legacy animal. Cache Muddflipper #13151 Did not know until last year that he was so special. I would agree with the people that say Legacy is not that important. I also have a desire to preserve the past also. Call it what you will but as I have grown older (50) last year. I have grown to value the past and the history that goes with it. Call me a fence sitter. He has given me some really great calves the last few years. This year I am breeding with a red polled bull born here last year with my red cow. My goal would be to find a couple of Legacy heifers to go with Muddflipper. Have a herd of red Dexter's and a herd of duns. Just got the paper work back on Muddflipper last week. Planning on taking him to have straws drawn on him so that I may preserve his blood line. He throws the best little calf's that have his disposition and unique personality. The calves that have dropped this year have been both bulls. One is golden color like his mother the other one is dark chocolate. The dark one is the spitting image of his daddy.
