If anyone is interested, Discovery filmed at my neighbors' the last two summers and the first of three shows, "Alaska the Last Frontier" aired last night, 9 here. They will show the others the next two weeks. It depicts homesteading, their cows, and family. I've never watched a "reality show" before, but this was pretty accurate. Since none of us have TV, who live out here, we went to a pub in town to watch. Marsha

No, I sure wish they had Dexters, it would make it a lot more convenient for me. They have a mix of Angus, Herefords, and whatever is available. We don't have much choice around here. They had the Galloway bull, but the brown bear killed him. I milked Old Wesa, the cow they butchered, and another of their cows, Half and Half, two years ago all summer, and decided that I really missed cows and bought L.C. a year ago. By the way, 17 yo milk cow burger is REALLY tough, but made good chili or anything that can cook longer. Marsha

I watched and loved it, great show. I felt for him when he had to decide to butcher his milk cow for meat. He was very attached to her. Great show I am looking forward to more episodes.

Marsha I can't believe they are only doing 3 shows, I'd have thought they could have done at least 10. I certainly hope they do more of them. What a beautiful place you live,

They shot hundreds of hours and edited it to 3. (I ended up on the cutting room floor). Maybe they'll extend it. Otto wasn't faking his concern for Wesa. He had a chance to send her to Palmer to the slaughterhouse with a load going up (250 miles away) and decided he'd rather slaughter her at home than have her endure the truck ride. Marsha

I wasn't there when they were filming this time. L.C. was, visiting with their Scotch Highlander (the young Dexter bull in Ninilchik wasn't interested). So, if you see a little red cow with a black calf in the pen with the highlander, it's her. And after she had her calf, her goat companion got very jealous and was butting the calf, so she went to live with Eve and I think they caught her kidding, so she may be in it. Marsha

We've been watching the episodes with Otto, Charlotte, kids, friends, and now the film crew. They are back to film 4 more episodes. Last night was our favorite, with everyone cheering Eivin when he saved the day. They also didn't over-dramatize the narration as they have with previous episodes. We do have a grocery store 10 miles away-no one is starving if we don't get a bear or moose. L.C. was at the homestead, getting bred to the Highlander, when they were getting ready for this trip to the head of the bay, but I didn't see her in the background. Marsha
